A look at Surrey RCMP's program for mental health crisis response

Recent deaths and injuries involving police during so-called wellness checks have sparked scrutiny over how police respond to people experiencing mental health challenges. Advocates say chronic under-funding of mental health services has thrust police into a role for which they're ill-equipped. Surrey RCMP say their Car 67 program, pairing officers with mental health professionals, is a model for better mental health crisis response.
