Andrew Furey, next premier of N.L., wins Liberal leadership election

Andrew Furey, a physician from a political family, will be the 14th premier of Newfoundland and Labrador. The son of Senate Speaker George Furey was announced winner of the provincial Liberal party leadership vote on Monday night. He will replace Premier Dwight Ball in the top political job. Furey spoke of the tough economic times ahead at a convention that was sparsely attended due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
