B.C. reports 42 new COVID-19 cases, one death

Provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry says British Columbia has 659 COVID-19 cases, with 42 new cases reported Wednesday. Henry says the most recent death of a resident in a long-term care home in North Vancouver raises the province's total to 14 deaths. She says there are increasing concerns about potential shortages of personal protective equipment for health workers treating novel coronavirus patients. But Henry says officials are working to stockpile, reuse and purchase more gloves, gowns and masks. Henry also says she is keenly awaiting patient data over the next week or 10 days to determine if the province's physical distancing efforts are working.
