Newsroom Ready: B.C. First Nation files Charter challenge alleging RCMP won't enforce band bylaws

The Heiltsuk Tribal Council is taking the RCMP to court alleging police are violating Canada's Charter by not enforcing bylaws enacted by the First Nation. Chief Marilyn Slett says harm from drug overdoses and sexual violence has been made worse by the RCMP’s lack of enforcement of its bylaws that allows the nation to ban people from its land.
