Mother of slain CFL player addresses her son’s killer during sentencing hearing

The mother of a Calgary Stampeders football player had an opportunity to address her son's killer at a sentencing hearing in Calgary Thursday. She told reporters after the hearing that it took some of the weight off her shoulders being able to tell Nelson Lugela what he had done to her family. Mylan Hicks, a 23-year-old player on the practice roster of the Canadian Football League Stampeders, was shot outside Calgary's Marquee Beer Market in 2016. Lugela will be sentenced next Wednesday.
