Newsroom Ready: Trudeau promises $1 billion for COVID-19 fight
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced a $1-billion plan to help health care providers, employers and people who can't go to work because of the COVID-19 illness. He says the government is already preparing to do more if need be to support Canadians as the situation progresses. That includes providing EI sickness benefits to those who don’t qualify for the program, such as those who are self-employed and “gig economy” workers.
