CFL rules changes hot topic at commissioner Stewart Johnston's first state of the league address.
CFL commissioner Stewart Johnston held his first state of the league address Nov. 14 and not surprisingly, the league's proposed rules and field changes for 2026 and '27, respectively, were hot-button topics. The 2027 changes, though, are the most significant as the CFL will reduce the length of its fields from 110 yards to 100 and cut its end zones from 20 yards to 15 yards. The goalposts — currently set on the goal line — will be pushed to the back of the end zone, a move Johnston feels will open up the middle and create more opportunities for touchdowns.
