South Korean growers sue state power utility, blaming climate change for crop damage

Rice farmer Hwang Seong-yeol and four other South Korean growers have sued the state utility Korea Electric Power Corp. and its power-generating subsidiaries, alleging their reliance on coal and other fossil fuels has accelerated climate change and damaged their crops. The lawsuit raises questions about whether power companies can be held accountable for their contributions to climate change and resulting agricultural losses and whether those contributions can be quantified.
