Indigenous Services Minister Marc Miller said a new law to implement the UN declaration sets forth a set of principles as a guiding light to guide the government behaviour with Indigenous Peoples. He said reforming Canadian laws to protect Indigenous Peoples' rights as listed in the UN declaration is the responsibility of both the federal government and the provinces.
