Canada to sanction Russian President Vladimir Putin after Ukraine invasion

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says Canada will sanction Russian President Vladimir Putin, his chief of staff and his foreign minister as part of a third set of severe, co-ordinated sanctions against the country over its invasion of Ukraine. Trudeau says Canada would also support the removal of Russia from the SWIFT payment system, which connects thousands of banks worldwide.
