CP170185551 | Sweden officially joins NATO, ending decades of post-World War II neutrality
CP170119584 | Here’s what to know about Sweden’s bumpy road toward NATO membership
Sweden seeks to answer schoolchildren's questions about NATO and war after its neutrality ends
Sweden became the Western military alliance’s 32nd member in March. But the abrupt end to the Scandinavian country’s 200 years of neutrality following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, and officials’ continuous warnings about the Russian threat to Sweden itself, still worry many. And teenagers are no exception. The national children’s help line reported an increase in questions on concerns about war after two top officials said earlier this year that there was a risk of war in Sweden, and that Swedes must prepare. Teachers and the country's civic education agency have designed a program to educate students on the history and geopolitics of NATO. (AP video by Chisato Tanaka and David Keyton)
